With the landscape of reality TV shows quickly shifting from the simple anthropological study of stupid individuals and gearing more towards seeing what execs can get those stupid people to do in front of the cameras, the niche is now an arms race to see how outrageous the programming can get. The shock value has to be constantly turned up, to the point where it's not outrageous to predict that, in a few years, the SNL sketch where Chris Farley's nipples are electrocuted on a Japanese game show would be the inspiration for a new show.

Which is to say, it was only a matter of time before people on TV started eating each other's flesh.

Over in the Netherlands for a show called "Proefkonijnen" (in English, "Test Rabbits"), two hosts went through an episode where they, I guess, tested out how cannibalism works? To accomplish this feat, they each chose what fleshy part they would eat from each other's bodies, had a surgeon skillfully remove that part, sent it to a professional cook for some professional cooking, and swallowed it down. The culinary result:

“Nothing is really that special when you’re talking about the taste of the meat,”  host Dennis Storm told ABCNews.com. “But it is weird to look into the eyes of a friend when you are chewing on his belly.”

Indeed it is, my Dutch friends. Indeed it is. Nothing much left to say about this one, other than it's probably a good time to start stockpiling guns, canned goods, and plenty to read in that cabin out in the desolate woods with this evidence of the direction society is heading.

This sounds very... I don't know. It goes beyond bizarre. It's science fiction come to life.
