Jeffrey Ross dressed as Muammar Gaddafi

Comedy Central Roast victims are usually chosen for their complete ineptitude in the face of fame, lack of any discernable talent, and oversized personalities on the pop-culture landscape. Given the events of the last year (and since Flavor Flav already had one), we're getting The Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen  — another send-up of a Hollywood train-wreck who's captured our ire, as well as our hearts. The roast was taped recently and will air on Comedy Central next week.

Plenty of celebs turned out to let Sheen have it, including former Roastee William Shatner, comedian Patrice O'Neal, Steve-O, Mike Tyson and long-time roaster Jeffrey Ross (who arrived in full Muammar Gaddafi garb). Seth MacFarlane also reprised his role as the roastmaster, and kicked things off with a reading of Charlie Sheen's obituary.

"I mean, we all know there’s a good chance Charlie will be dead soon, so I wrote an obituary. Charlie Sheen, who became a tabloid fixture due to his problems with drugs and alcohol, was found dead in his apartment. Actually, you know what? I kind of just copied Amy Winehouse’s obituary. I only had to change three things: the sex of the deceased, the location of the body, and the part that says a talent that will be missed...

In an interesting contrast to most roasts, that seemed to set the tone for the evening: jokes with an undertone of " ... but seriously, get help." At times, Sheen's roasters genuinely seemed more concerned about getting through rather than just ripping into him.

In the end, it seemed like Sheen got the message, especially after his rebuttal; “Until tonight, I never knew how fucked up I was ... Maybe I should have listened to those sixty doctors ..." In an interview for the Huffington Post, Jeffrey Ross admits to the event being less of a celebrity roast than a chance to recognize someone's moment in pop culture. Ross also cites the evening as "a comedic intervention... hitting the reset button on (Sheen's) life... I think this roast looks forward, not backward, and that's new for the roast."

I guess if you've got millions of dollars, twitter followers and celebrities for friends, anything is possible.
