There's a word for seeing 2005's claustrophobic pedophilia thriller Hard Candy one day, and the next day learning that Italy basically just said it's OK for old dudes to get BJ's from minors in a car so long as your txtmsgs are convincingly emotional. That word is serendipitous. Because whereas on most days, we'd have read that bit of news and maybe been satisfied with a couple of Polanski jokes, today... today, we are full on pissed about it.

Just like young Hayley Stark, who, as played by current Oscar nominee Ellen Page, is mad as hell about the way girls are preyed upon in this world and she's not gonna take it anymore. We're still not sure whether her scheme to turn the tables on a suspected molester is justified or even an act of sanity -- but goddamned if, even after she's begun pulling some seriously dark shit, we didn't ultimately want her to get away with it. Page's Hayley is as bright and formidable and terrifying an opponent as we've seen in a movie in a long ass time. Also: she makes us pray for any Italian Stallions who've decided that they've suddenly got the legal right to take advantage of anyone like her.
