Normal Breasts Gallery Bums Us Out

Posted by Colleen Kane

It's sad that something like the Normal Breasts Gallery is apparently necessary.

The headline at the top of of this web page reads, "Have you seen pictures of normal non-sexual breasts?"

It's part of a larger website by the Female Intelligence Agency, and the aim of this breasts gallery is actually pretty similar to the sculpture project we covered yesterday, which shows vaginas of all different types to prove that vaginas come in all shapes and sizes.

So it turns out the artificial ideal of large pert breast with small nipples as seen on TV, movies and magazines does not actually happen in nature that much. To see many of those variations (asymmetrical, small, large areaolas, etc.), visit the gallery.

weird part about this is how many of the testimonies mention that men validate their beauty as like, some kind of consolation. like liking yourself doesn't have much to do with it.

The ideal breast is supposed to have small nipples?  Who's into small nipples/areolas?  What is it about stupid frat boys that's managed to shape everything society is supposed to like?

I like the idea behind this project. But:

- the pictures don't actually show the natural variations of breasts -- natural breasts are typically much nicer than what is shown there, even if most of them in fact don't resemble the surgery-enhanced media-boobs

- Isn't it possible to use (technically) better pictures? Most of the pictures look as if they were taken by a five-year old who uses a camera for the first time.
