These Gay Surfers Are Breaking Boundaries While Hanging Ten

Surf's up.

A new mini-documentary filmed in Australia gets up close and personal with two openly gay surfers, who discuss breaking down barriers in their highly judgmental sport. Caught Inside: The Taboo Of Being A Gay Surfer follows Dave and Adam, both professional surfers who recently struggled with the process of coming out in an athletic field where the open acceptance of gay culture has not quite happened yet. Thomas, one of the filmmakers behind Caught Inside, explains that gay surfers were hard to find when kickstarting the film, with individuals and surfing organizations not wanting to speak out about their sexual orientation due to fear of discrimination. "It's their job to talk about these issues and if there are issues, it's their job to fix it," he says in the clip below.
