Set up the cam, because it's about to get weird.
Since the advent of the internet, pubescent Americans everywhere no longer have to suffer the particularly humbling experience of being caught with an awkward boner from flipping through Hustler at the grocery store or with their heads buried in Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Sex *But Were Too Afraid To Ask in the back stacks of the library.* With sites like Redtube and YouPorn, they can now get caught watching porn in the privacy of their own homes. This easy-access to xxx material has created a generation of people more comfortable with using technology for sexual purposes, in other words: a generation of freaks. In honor of National Masturbation Month, social webcam site Cam4 and French survey institute IFOP surveyed a representative sample of 1,023 Americans over the age of 18 on their sexual habits and were surprised with the findings.
According to the study, "40 percent of women under 35 have shared photos or videos in which they were at least semi-naked, either via text or through social media." (This might explain why puss shots are on the rise.) We're also videotaping sex more often with 25 percent of respondents under 35 saying they have filmed or photographed themselves while having sex with their partner and over 50 percent saying they would do so 'if the timing was right.'" (Although, it would probably be a lil’ blurry if you took it while you were coming.)
People are also being more open about masturbation with 79 percent of female respondents under 35 saying they had masturbated and 88 percent of their male peers saying the same. As the study reports, "this was considerably higher than the overall proportion of the sample, suggesting that young people are significantly more likely to engage in self pleasure than their older counterparts [also indicating] that the figure might be even higher for women, who tend to underreport their solo-sex experiences."
Cam-viewing is on the rise with 21 percent of women and 32 percent of men reporting watching live sex shows online. Skype sex is also increasingly common, with 26 percent of respondents saying they had "had sexual relations via a webcam, while 48 percent said they would do so if given the opportunity."
So it’s clear we, as a nation, are pursuing happiness, just like our Founding Fathers would have wanted us to: one dick pic at a time.
*Neither of these have ever happened to this author. Just kidding, yes they have.
