A thirty-two-year-old single mother from Casa Grande, Arizona is bringing smiles to the faces of trunk-junk devotees across the land, as she attempts to become the world's all-time fattest woman.
Susanne Eman currently weighs about 728 pounds, and is bizarrely shooting for a weight of at least 1,800 pounds. She says she consumes 21,000 calories a day, and once a month spends eight hours at the grocery store filling up six shopping carts with items. She said, "The bigger I get, the better I feel. I feel confident and sexy."
Eman claims that packing on the pounds has actually had a positive effect on her image. She said, "Two years ago I hit 510 pounds because I was losing my battle against weight gain. I noticed I actually started attracting more men, and it made me feel good."
The unemployed Eman uses a motorized scooter to get around, but says she stays active and has regular health checks. "I go for a waddle and do stretches and exercises every day. My muscles need to hold up to my weight, so I have to stay strong," she said.
I can appreciate Eman's spunk and "winning" attitude in trying to flout mainstream notions of beauty, but she shouldn't just turn a blind eye to the real medical consequences that could be in store for her. And it doesn't seem fair to her twelve- and sixteen-year-old sons. Her doctor, Patrick Flite, said:
"She's really playing Russian roulette with her life pursuing this goal. There are well-documented complications that come with morbid obesity. I would never encourage anyone to be doing what Susanne is doing."
