New science suggests that the nearer women are to peak ovulation, the more accurate their gaydar becomes. (Oh, and old science from the same researchers suggests that gaydar is a real thing, in case you were wondering.) This conclusion was put forth after a study, published in Psychology Today, produced the following findings:
1. Women who are approaching peak fertility can better tell whether man is straight or gay just by looking at his face.
2. Women who are approaching peak fertility can't better tell whether a woman is straight or gay just by looking at her face.
3. Women who've "read a story that described a romantic encounter" can better tell whether a man is straight or gay just by looking at his face.
Yeah, that third one was a bit of a curveball, wasn't it? According to the researchers, "those [test subjects] who had read the story, and were thus 'primed with a mating goal,' were 'significantly more accurate than those who were not.'" And, yes, those "primed" women also sucked at identifying straight women from lesbians.
