The Hollywood Reporter reported yesterday that a new John Belushi biopic is in the works. (Hopefully, it will right what was wronged in the widely panned 1989 Belushi biopic Wired.) As of now, The Hangover and Old School director Todd Phillips is set to produce and The Pursuit of Happyness screenwriter Steven Conrad will write the script.

No director is attached right now, but the real question is, "Who will play John Belushi?" Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen and Jack Black are names being thrown out, and of the lot I think Black best embodies the spirit of Belushi (volatile and high). Yeah, you have to find actors that look like their subject, but being overweight and slightly grizzled isn't enough to warrant the filmed retelling of a man's life who was really important to an entire generation of people. Warner Bros. recently acquired the story rights to Belushi's life, so I guess this is something they feel they may as well make.
