Yes, Scream 4 features all those lovely women and more: Courtney Cox, Kristen Bell, Emma Roberts, Marley Shelton, Shenae Grimes, Alison Brie... And then there are the guys: David Arquette, Adam Brody, Rory Culkin... (Okay, they did a little bit better on the big-name ladies, but horror movies always do.) Somehow they managed to corral this mob and make the fourth installment of the Scream series. Here's the trailer:

Does anyone else feel suddenly very tired? Not because I think this trailer was boring — there was lots of running and screaming and knives, after all — but doesn't this movie feel like it will be a lot of hard work for little payoff? Not only do I have to remember and pick up on all the references to Scream and the movies it spawned, but also the horror movies that came before it and the ones that usurped the ones that it spawned! My head hurts! Also, does saying "the kill needs to be more extreme" mean this is going to be like Saw? Because that's not cool.

I can tell you who will be playing the Drew Barrymore role this time around, though:

Hi ladies! Thank you for joining us for the opening scene, and have fun with your successful careers. Also, love both your faces right now.

The whole trilogy as it stood sucked. Oh look at me I'm a self referential slasher film, doesn't that make me clever. I'm going to change the rules of the genre, but not really, because the kids are going to still act like stupid idiots, stuck in a stupid plot, only this time they are going to say witty things. Isn't that cool? The first three movies were lame, what was the point of having self aware characters who could reason things through if you're only going to subordinate them to the rigidness of the standardized slasher movie storyline? The movies were neither scary, insightful, or good,. They were just insipid . Why even consider making another? Besides the obvious economic ones.

I actually kinda like the third one the most because it went the furthest with the humour. I hope this actually remembers to keep the jokes and not be humourless

Scream 2 was one of the best, best sequels ever made.
The concept of having a horror movie within a horror movie, and still
have a mad murder man, Micky, be the killer.
Great.
S3 was an upset.
S4, we'll see.
