Stanley from The Office releases hip-hop video, for some reason
By James Brady RyanNovember 30th, 2011, 9:30 amComments (4)And I don't mean Stanley the character, though to be honest, I'm not sure whether that would have been more or less surprising. I'm going with less; at least with a character, you can blame a bad day in the writers room. No, this is actually actor Leslie David Baker's newest (first?) single, "2 Be Simple" we're talking about 2day. (Love the title — very Prince — but why flip-flop and actually spell out "be?") Baker doesn't really rap, exactly — it's more like a rhythmic AutoTuning. But he does call in some young guys to add a verse.
And the video is, uh... well... I'm not sure how to break this to you guys, so I'll just be up-front about this: he kind of gets a handy from a poltergeist arm that comes from his fridge.
That was a lot to process, I know. But let's be charitable and say that everyone should get to live out their dream of being rich and surrounded by sexy parties, so good on you, Leslie. (Let's also be charitable and not talk about the song, you know, in a musical way.) There's one thing I can't forgive about this video, though, and that is a reference to "Dick In A Box," a five-year-old skit from SNL. There's always some leeway with "topical" pop-culture references, but at a certain point you need to draw the line.
And in case you're wondering, yes, the fact that "Dick In A Box" is from 2006 does mean that you're old now. I'm so sorry, but feel free to join me for dinner at the Golden Corral at 5 p.m. today.
