Thom Yorke wants you to buy two minutes of silence
By Ray RahmanOctober 18th, 2010, 5:19 pmComments (17)But it's okay because it's for charity. Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke and other notables like Roxy Music founder Bryan Ferry, Prime Minister David Cameron, and professional British person Mark Ronson are releasing a new two-minute single that consists entirely of silence. Proceeds from the "charity single" (which will be released on Nov. 7, Britain's Remembrance Day) will go toward the families of British troops.
Though, arguably, the proceeds should be going to John Cage's estate, or a good intellectual property lawyer. Nonetheless, the avant-garde-y idea is a commendable one. According to some important bureaucrat who's helping put this out:
Rather than record a song, we felt the UK public would recognize the poignancy of silence and its clear association with remembrance.
Sure. And, honestly, it'll probably sound better than a lot of Radiohead's recent work. (Sorry, Hail to the Thief.)

You are wrong re: Hail to the Thief
You are wrong re: Hail to the Thief
Rahman's snark with Gorillaz and now Radiohead is getting a bit much
But I already heard that track when Sonic Youth recorded it.
I prefer Meat Beat Manifesto's "15 Seconds of Silence," personally.
As for Radiohead's recent work, you do know they put out an album after "Hail to the Thief," right?
Sorry, that's "Track 15" from MBM, not "15 Seconds of Silence."
Hail to the Thief was/is a fantastic record that I still listen to! Though anything after that has been dribble! I think they may have reached their intellectual peak!
what a ponce
Maybe it's just Cage in cut time?
I think silence is a great idea--and that the comment re: "Hail to the Thief" proves the author's tone-deafness.
Radiohead fans are so bitchy.
Your favorite band is quite awesome, but they're just a prog-rock group, they're not Christ-like. You don't see Yes and Pink Floyd fans with such a stick up their butt.
That said, I really enjoyed "In Rainbows", but I don't expect anyone else to. I don't put it on at parties.
writer = 12 year old gaga fan with eye for snark.
I remember back when Hooksexup was an edgy sex blog, and hired writers who had actually had sex before.
How will a single consisting of 2 minutes of silence ever get any airplay? Quiet Riot didn't record "Cum on, feel the sylence".
Just like the song PootyTang did!
i want to marry you
Writer is entitled to his an opinion but the fact is that an album with songs like "There There" and "Myxamitosis" on it just CAN'T be that bad.
Anyway, this seems a wee bit pretencious and eye-rolling. I'd much rather get a song out of Yorke or Ronson
Now you say something
