Newt Gingrich

Normally I like to root for paunchy history geeks in their attempts to get laid find love, but you have to draw the line somewhere. According to a new interview with Newt Gingrich's ex-wife Marianne, the Republican Presidential hopeful attempted to open their marriage in order to sleep with his current wife, Callista. Marianne also says in the interview that Gingrich doesn't have the "moral character" to be President.

Obviously, Gingrich and co. have tried to keep the interview, which will be featured on Nightline tonight, from airing, calling the whole thing "simply wrong." It also happens to land just in time for the crucial South Carolina primary. But not to worry, now that it can't be stopped, this classy elder statesman will be taking the high road:

"I'm not going to say anything negative. I think people who have known me a long time are credible on my character," Gingrich said, adding, "People will have to judge me. But sixteen and twenty-year-old stories, you know, we have real stories this week on the failure of the Obama administration."

He may be right that it's old news, but an open marriage is a little, uh, "progressive" for a potential GOP candidate. Hope Rick Perry's not regretting that endorsement! Watch below for a clip of the interview.

I wonder how long has the Romney camp had that little factoid in their files and ready to release into the WWE cage match that is the South Carolina primary. Their timing is exquisite but the fact that they felt it necessary to go down this road smells of panic and desperation.

As far as I know, the "Romney camp" doesn't control ABC News / Nightline. So I'm not sure why you're attributing this revelation to a desperate move on his part.

They don't need to control ABC News, all they need to do is to tip them off. The fact that any woman wants to have sex with this hot-wind filled blob of protoplasm is in itself newsworthy, so it does not take much to entice the media on the eve of a big election to do a "pervert" story on one of the remaining candidates.

Probably didn't but that doesn't keep people from trying to smear Gingrich.

Are you kidding?

This is the first thing I've LIKED about him! It speaks well of his character that he was honest with her instead having an affair

Honest??? Are *you* kidding? He started the affair in 1993. He told the wife about it in 1999. He's a liar and a cheater, not to mention a hypocrite -- Gingrich is on the bandwagon to "save" the "sanctity" of "traditional marriage," i.e., by forbidding same-sex marriages. I don't have a problem with anyone who freely and openly chooses to have an open marriage or to practice polyamory. But Gingrich is a one-man wrecking crew when it comes to making a mockery of "traditional" marriage. What tradition is that, Newt? One man, three women, with the new one overlapping the old one in each case?

If he agrees to boink an intern in the Oval Office, will that make liberals love him? Perhaps he can even stain a blue dress, if that would help.

The request for an open relationship wouldn't be such a big deal if he had asked for it BEFORE he went ahead and opened the relationship. Instead he started cheating and then years later decided to ask for an open relationship...which means it was just cheating plain and simple.
