Mad Men and Modern Family predictably cleaned up at the Emmys

To the surprise of very, very few, Mad Men and Modern Family both swept at last night's Emmy awards. Even though Jon Hamm was snubbed once again for Lead Actor in a Drama, Mad Men still picked up its fourth consecutive win for Drama Series, while Modern Family picked up five awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a comedy series for Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen, respectively.
You can see the complete list of winners over at Entertainment Weekly, which includes The Daily Show with Jon Stewart winning for the ninth year in a row and Kate Winslet taking home an expected trophy for Mildred Pierce.
One of the Times' TV critics dubbed the awards show "the land of no surprises," and even with Jane Lynch as the host, the show is getting mixed reviews at best. The ceremony was definitely a little clunky, and normally things do get seriously boring when the same shows and actors take home the same awards every year. However, since Mad Men and Modern Family happen to be two of my favorite shows on the air right now, I'm more than okay with it.

Kyle Chandler was an awesome surprise. Melissa McCarthy was a less awesome one.
I'll second the Kyle Chandler awesomeness, and go further to say that I don't like the charicterization of Hamm being "snubbed." it This ain't metallica v jethro tull (or Two and Half Men versus anything that could produce even the slightest Chuckle). Sure Hamm is great, but I'll take coach taylor any day of the week... plus Hamm should have plenty more opportunities to win. FNL is done.
And here we go as usual, there was an awards show last night, and there are mostly negative reviews today. I wish people would just stop reviewing these things if they don't like them. The show wasn't bad, and little flashes of it were great. Mostly predictable on the awards themselves to be sure.
To me replaying Kate Winslet jogging up the steps to the stage, boobs a-jiggle, in slo-mo a couple of times, made the whole thing worth the DVR space. I can only envy Hugh Laurie, who got the close-up, head-on view.
If Mad Men weren't a period piece, it wouldn't even get nominated.
I am confused... firstly, are you implying that period pieces are traditionally given preference at the emmys? Also, I don't really think Mad Men could exist without being a period piece, the whole concept is pretty reliant on the 60's.
Mad Men wins best drama and NOTHING ELSE and that's a sweep?!
Seriously. Not to mention Downton Abbey won a ridiculous amount of awards with NO mention here.
