"Glee" to provide funding to NYC school for LGBT teens

Maybe now I don't have to feel so bad about buying their cover of "Teenage Dream"? (And no, you don't have to tell me how terrible that is. I already know, and I live in shame.) Ryan Murphy, the show's creator, announced Tuesday night at the Emery Awards — which honor people who help create safe spaces for teenagers — that profits from Glee would provide funding for a job readiness counselor at the Harvey Milk High School.

The school, which is part of the Hetrick Martin Institute, is a public school open to students who could no longer attend their own schools due to anti-LGBT bullying. (Regardless of their actual sexual orientation or gender, which means that straight students can attend as well.) Said Murphy at the event:

I really wanted to do something to thank all of you for your support of Glee over the past year. You've bought like 15 million songs, that’s pretty amazing...

Murphy had taken a tour of the school earlier that day; the "job readiness" counselor position had been cut due to budget restraints. He also pledged to donate scholarship money and, should their be a Glee tour this year, to collect donations for the school at the concerts.
