Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert announce "Rally to Restore Sanity" and "March to Keep Fear Alive"
By James Brady RyanSeptember 17th, 2010, 8:50 amComments (2)Guess which host announced which. In a move that wasn't exactly unexpected — considering that Reddit push for a "Restoring Truthiness" rally and the reference to the possibility in New York's profile of Stewart — the hosts of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report officially declared that on October 30, they would gather with their supporters on the Mall in Washington, DC. Here's Stewart's announcement about the "Rally to Restore Sanity", complete with some rational, non-hyperbolic signage:

Of course, considering their rivalry, the two men aren't hosting the same rally. So here's Colbert (as a demonic Abe Lincoln Memorial) announcing his own "March to Keep Fear Alive":
The Colbert Report | Mon - Thurs 11:30pm / 10:30c
March to Keep Fear Alive

I'm excited to see which "special guests" they have lined up. (Conan? Rachel Maddow? Brian Williams? I'm just throwing out names here. But I'd be happy with any of those.) I'm also curious to see just how many people show up. Of course, the most important question is: for those of us who can't make it down to DC, there will be some kind of live feed and/or televised recap, right?

I'll be there with my sensible signs. Can't wait!
Didn't know that all doubts around 9/11 had been resolved. Building 7 sure seemed strange, the fact that the planes weren't immediately intercepted despite the flimsy and impossible excuse that training drills simulating the exact same type of scenarios were being run at the same time, the Pentagon plane "disintegrating" in defiance of the laws of physics, plus surveillance cameras that filmed the Pentagon impact being confiscated by the FBI and never made public, the independent reports by multiple experts who found that the official story of the tower collapses were not credible, etc. etc. etc., but thank goodness I don't have to think about any of that any more. "9/11 was an outside job." Keep repeating it while sucking your thumb and feeling all warm and cozy that the world is nothing but good Americans and bad, bad, naughty Muslim terrorists who hate our freedom.
