Kristen Wiig won't play Gilly anymore

With the release of Bridesmaids around the corner and an endless stream of glowing publicity, Kristen Wiig is pretty indisputably having a moment. And, as such, she's earned the right to start making a few demands. In a new interview, SNL's current star cast member tells Time that she's officially retired two of her most famous (and famously grating) characters, the obsessively competitive Penelope and the vaguely murderous child Gilly. In fact, Wiig now refuses to dust them off, even at the request of Lorne Michaels! Seriously, nothing says power like the ability to say no to Lorne Michaels.
Personally, I think this just means more opportunity for Wiig to break out new characters and showcase different facets of her talent, but then again I was never a huge fan of either Penelope or Gilly to begin with. So what do you think — major loss to the show, or major relief?

Good for her. I liked those characters, but she's taken them as far as they can go.
Why do that!?! If it weren't for Gilly and Penelope, all of Kristen Wiig's characters would be exactly the same.
That stuff always fell flat.
Any way we can get her to add the Target lady to that list, and the woman who can't keep a secret? Penelope was clever for a bit, but it's overdone, and all of them make me go, "Oh, no, that this again," when they show up.

If you want "Oh no not that again" it has to be "Oowee, what's up with that?" I'm going to shoot my TV if I see that crap once more.
Yeah, I hate that one, too. It's one joke, over and over again, and not a very funny one even to begin with.
I like Wiig a lot. Gilly was far and away her worst character. I'm not sure how it ever got on the air in the first place. The writers thought it was funny?
Thank god. SNL doesn't really have any sketches at the moment worthy of being a running bit
She is one of the weakest star on SNL anyway. I never thought of her as funny and I hate Gilly.
Wow, if you think Kristen Wiig is one of the weakest SNL stars I'd really hate to hear about your sense of humor.
I always hated her character on Weekend Update who was really nervous and said "just kidding" a lot. Perhaps thats penelope, I never paid attention long enough for a name.
It's time for new stuff, she's a huge talent.

Seriously, she's a hottie underneath the SNL veil...so was Tina Fey for that matter,
it seems the sooner chicks leave SNL the hotter they instantaneously become.
