Beastie Boy Mike D has his own wine blog

Beastie "man" Mike Diamond is the latest musician to show that being a rock star doesn't preclude having a sophisticated palate, as he follows on the heels of Jim James' and M. Ward's recently-launched creme brulee blog with his own blog on wine critic James Suckling's new website, jamessuckling.com. The Brass Monkey is a distant memory as he samples a half bottle of 2006 Jean-Marc Morey Santenay La Comme Dessus at New York's Momofuku Ssam Bar:

"The red Burgundy was really good actually, especially when you don't expect much out of a restaurant half bottle. I can't say the spicy cuisine did the wine any favors. But still, after properly cleansing the palate, this was, surprisingly ready to rock - ripe fruits, earthy notes, even a little bit of refined funk. Elegant and restrained with well-balanced tension. 93 points."

The Wall Street Journal reported on a previous tasting of '82 Bordeaux First Growths by Diamond, Suckling, and writer Jay McInerney. The favorite that day was a Cheval Blanc merlot, which Mike D described in his unique way as a "big ass, cleavagey beauty." With fellow Beastie Adam Yauch busy doing charity work for Tibet and directing films, it's time for Ad-Rock to step his game up and start that coffee blog.
