Back in 1988, shortly after graduating from the University of Idaho, Sarah Palin (then Sarah Heath) worked as a sportscaster for KTUU-TV in Anchorage, Alaska. She was passable as a twenty-four-year-old with a big, feathered bouffant reading off results of the Iditarod and basketball scores, but no Linda Cohn of ESPN.

Palin's old sportscasting days are suddenly relevant, as the new unauthorized biography of Palin, The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin, by Joe McGinniss (the guy who rented the summer house next to the Palins in Wasilla) hits bookshelves on September 20. The controversial McGinniss has written past books about Richard Nixon, Alaska, and true-crime thrillers like Fatal Vision. (To this day, I still don't know if Jeffrey MacDonald was guilty of killing his family.)

According to a publishing source, the book reveals that Palin had a one-night stand with Michigan basketball player and former NBA star Glen Rice in 1987, when he was playing in a tournament in Alaska and she was reporting for KTUU. The source reveals that McGinniss claims Palin had a "fetish" for black men at the time, and he quotes a friend of Palin saying that Sarah had "hauled (Rice's) ass down." (Like a flippin' King Salmon?) This would be several months before Sarah eloped with Todd Palin. The allegations of cocaine use we'll leave for the book to tell.

I would have hit that then, and I'd still hit it now. As long as she doesn't talk........

If the politics thing doesn't work out for her, perhaps she has a future in media.

I didn't know she'd been an extra in Working Girl.
