This girl oughta be in pictures. Seriously, she’s got acting chops — you can tell. So much so that this series by photographer William Springfield feels like a set of movie stills. Scene One: She masturbates loudly in crotchless leggings for her boyfriend, who likes to watch. Scene Two: She discovers a shade of lipstick not hers on their bathroom mirror, and angrily moves out, despite her empty bank account. Scene Three: She becomes a glamorous vagrant, sleeping in bus shelters. Scene Four: She moves to the roof of an apartment building and sets up home. A famous filmmaker spies her nude on the roof from his vintage sports car and casts her in his latest blockbuster. Scene Five: She marries him to advance her acting career, but she does not love him, and so masturbates to pictures of men in magazine ads on the floor of his condo while he’s away on location. Scene Six: Despaired by her loveless marriage and declining fame, she drowns herself in the bath, wearing only the gaudy heels that she wore in her final film, which bombed. Finis. — Will Doig
