How did you start shooting? I took pictures like everyone does at first: like a tourist. Have fun, shoot some pictures of your friends, that kind of stuff. In 1995 it hit me: I have to document everything. When we went on tours, I started shooting the skateboarders around me. In Amsterdam that same year, I saw Nan Goldin's retrospective I'll Be Your Mirror. That really illustrated what I had been thinking at the time: don't turn the camera away from anything in your life.
