Flesh for Fantasy

Various combinations of fruit and naked woman have been painted, photographed, and written about since the dawn of time. But there's nothing wrong with recontextualizing an old theme, as Amanda Tetrault proves in this series. Sex, after all, is an unchanging story too. It's crafty of Tetrault to shoot oranges floating on the surface of a bathtub, so the circles of fruit mirror the model's full nipples, or juxtapose a halved pear with an obscured vulva. These photos re-conjure all the delightful implications of the fruit/nudity team-up — fecundity, youth, ripeness — and make them fresh as ever. — Peter Smith
