John Edwards Admits to Fathering Love Child With Rielle Hunter

Jeezy creezy. There have been a lot of political downfalls in the past few years, but this one is just spectacular (and I meant that in the worst way). John Edwards, do you realized you could now be known as "that guy who kept proving the National Enquirer right"? That is one seriously damaging nickname, sir. [Note - pictured baby is not John Edwards'. ...As far as we know!] This is what Johnny boy had to say in a written statement he released this morning:

I am Quinn’s father. I will do everything in my power to provide her with the love and support she deserves. I have been able to spend time with her during the past year and trust that future efforts to show her the love and affection she deserves can be done privately and in peace.

It was wrong for me ever to deny she was my daughter and hopefully one day, when she understands, she will forgive me. I have been providing financial support for Quinn and have reached an agreement with her mother to continue providing support in the future.

To all those I have disappointed and hurt these words will never be enough, but I am truly sorry.

Of course it's also clear that a whole slew of people - including his wife Elizabeth, mistress Rielle Hunter (obvi), and that one guy who claimed the child was his and not Edwards' - have known about this for a while. At least if he had just been gay or something the years of lying would have been somewhat understandable (though I guess it's pretty obvious why he lied here - perhaps I should say forgivable). Edwards should have known that, like an angry ex or the zombie revolution, lying about a love child will always come back to haunt you.
