I guess the Pope just wanted to make sure that the Catholic Church was staying on people's minds, you know? It wouldn't be good to keep too low of a profile in this modern era. Maybe now they can get some headlines! In an article in the Vatican's official paper, L'Osservatore Romano, the Church had this to say about the legendary group:

It's true, they took drugs; swept up by their success, they lived dissolute and uninhibited lives. They even said they were more famous than Jesus. But, listening to their songs, all of this seems distant and meaningless. Their beautiful melodies, which changed forever pop music and still give us emotions, live on like precious jewels.

I'm glad the Vatican finally addressed the forty-year condemnation of the Beatles, and in the most appropriate way possible. Because they can appreciate the beauty of the music even while reminding us that the band's rock-'n-roll lifestyle had harmful effects on young people everywhere. And the Vatican really cares about anyone, it's the young people, you know?

Hey look. The Beatles give us emotions.

Could the Vatican be any more out of touch?

40 Years? That's pretty fast compared to Galileo's rehabilitation. The Vatican must be clearing up the backlog.
