If There's One Way to Make The Tragedy of 9/11 Worse, This is It

Posted by Emily Farris

Remember earlier today when we said we wanted to forget that it's the seventh anniversary of the World Trade Center terrorist attacks? Well, ladies and gentlemen, artwork like this is why.

After the jump: "free fries for your suffering" and "like a Jesus rising up from the ashes."

More pain and suffering at Wonkette.

I have a little bit of sympathy for the people who create these things (even the Burger King coupon -- I'd like to think that it wasn't a cynical attempt to capitalize on a tragedy).  They are faced with a horror and tragedy of such enormity that they don't know how to react.  They want to do or say something, but don't know what, so it comes out in "silly" patriotic or religious art, or something that is just in bad taste.

An analogy:  When you were a kid, did you know any other kid who had a parent die?  Did you want to say something to that kid, but didn't know what, but maybe tried anyway, and it came out all inappropriate or half-assed or otherwise lame?  That's 9/11 on an adult scale.  Figuring out what to say or do, to express what we're feeling, with something like that is hard.
