Nipplegate II: The Russian Skater Shocker

Posted by Brian Fairbanks

Ekaterina Rubleva, a Russian figure skater, was competing in Helsinki, Finland the other day when her single-strap dress caused a Janet Jackson moment on national television.

But unlike the Jackson/Timberlake scandal, this was an unintentional consequence of a skimpy dress. (Although, if you think about it, what the hell was Rubleva thinking wearing a dress like that while whirrling all over the ice? No wonder it slipped.) Best part of all, no one was embarrassed by this, including Finnish conservatives and Rubleva herself, who merely smiles and shakes her head when the dance is completed.

Here's a video of their routine-- key moments come around 1:45 and 4:20.

That was not a single strap dress. Her right clear strap broke during the skate and she couldn't stop to fix it. If you look at the beginning of the performance (especially in the replay) she has both straps working. It was an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction. She should have pulled a Tonya Harding and stopped to ask for a redo.

Aww, I think she handled the nip slip with pretty good humour and grace. Really why should anyone be offended by an understandable accident, it's just a body part, and my I say a very shapely and attractive body part at that. :)

I think both handled the situation with poise and mutual understanting.  She had two straps at the beginning of the routine but during the clip one disappeared.  I saw her include a costume adjustment during the show that was only visible because I was watching for it.  Her partner was a real proffesional by his ability to keep his concentration on the routine and not the beautiful appendage popping up from time to time.  Real poise for both. My congratulations!
