Music Television Decides The Place For Music Videos Is The Interwebs

Posted by Jake Kalish

Finally. After not putting videos on for years, MTV launched a website Monday with more than 22,000 videos -- nearly all that have ever been played on the station. Now, go to MTVMusic.com and you'll find many of the site's Top Rated Videos are what you'd imagine them to be with such a wide catalog -- Talking Heads' Once In A Lifetime, Dire Straits' Money For Nothing, and A-Ha's Take On Me. But beating them all is Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up -- which leads us to ask whether this is sincere -- as in people really like the video -- or maybe we didn't all just get rickrolled.

It's funny, this rickrolling, and it's certainly been good for Rick Astley -- but dammit, if a couple merry pranksters force MTV to confiscate "Freedom '90" again, there's gonna be hell to pay! Every time we hit play, it's like we're seeing it for the very first time...
