Fantasia Barrino: Great In "The Color Purple" But Lousy With The Color Green

Posted by Jake Kalish

The Fantasia Barrino story is great - high-school dropout, mom at 16, tries out for American Idol, is called the best contestant in the show's history, has its best performance ever, wins, has a platinum album, earns rave reviews for her Broadway performance in The Color Purple, and is set to reprise that role onscreen.

Pretty amazing - except for the part editors might leave out of the storybook, which is that she doesn't pay her bills.

Her North Carolina mansion is being foreclosed upon, while she's owed the IRS lots of money, didn't pay off her limted-edition Mercedes, and almost lost another home because of money she owed creditors, before she reached a last-second settlement. Seriously, she's as bad at paying bills as she is good at singing Summertime. Two words: Business Manager.
