Thanks for the fixes! Who needs fact-checkers and proof-readers when we have readers as smart as you all!

One of the best essays I've read. And I'm one of those guys who didn;t want to corrupt the virgin - and ultimately ending up masturbating because I could never talk them past my judgement.

I had a very similar experience at the same age with Sandman. Though I know many nerds I rarely run into people with such intelligent and insightful nostalgia into the role fantasy and comics played in their formative years. Thank you for this!

For what it's worth, TMJ were from Scarsdale, not New Jersey. The last time I saw them was at an outdoor festival in Baltimore. Tim had found some random blue pill on the street and made a drunken, hopeless attempt to ascertain its nature before just popping the thing onstage. The organizers pulled them off* to make room for Dishwalla. *but not in a good way

You had such enormous privilege as a child, and you used it for what? Going to clubs "just because you could", getting drunk, being cock teases, and reading Sandman? NYC is the center of English-language hip culture, and your major influence of the summer was a comic book meant to make suburban theater geeks and their ilk feel superior because they could get a Shakespeare reference? I think I feel sick.

Your error in the number of siblings aside, while I obviously thought it important enough to correct, I also think that this piece is wonderful. I also recall the "feeling smart" when I understood Gaiman's more abstract references! Very gratifying, wasn't it?

There are seven - 7 - Endless, not six. Destruction should not be forgotten because he's quit his job...

This is such a beautifully written story that made me wish I had been there that summer too. Nothing else to say.

And yet again: "She was, horror of horrors, younger than me." Younger than I. okay. i'll admit, i don't hate to do this, i love to do this.

Hate to do this, but: "It immediately replaced Hal Hartley films and the semi-random New Jersey band Too Much Joy (the album Cereal Killers was on repeat for the entire summer) as the primary influence on Asia and I." should really end "Asia and me."

I hope you know you have officially solidified Hooksexup as my favorite weekly reading material of all time. There goes my story idea for my imaginary internship at Hooksexup.
