Communication, especially in the dating world, isn't only about words put together. It is also about understanding what the other person is REALLY saying behind the words being used. THIS DOES NOT TRANSLATE. "I love you" is different from "luv ya!". And if you are in a relationship with linguistic limitations, i would stay clear out of that word, unless you mean it. - kitmysss

Sounds like a bit of a typical asshole breakup. Is there an English word for that? The article itself is such a classic representation of stupid white xenophobe Americans and their views of 'other countries'. Oh yes, of course he's white, probably dated white chicks his whole life. Stupid Dumb White Americans, y'all got to get out and date others that are not your next door neighbour that you are related to (through marriage or otherwise). People from other countries are moving to North America by the 10's of thousands daily and soon enough they will be your neighbours if they aren't already. Date them!!!!! Love them!!!

When I first starting reading this article, I though it was going to relate to this article but the truth is that I can't. I've dated girls when living abroad and for me the language barrier only created funny moments but never miscommunication. Well, the sex is kind of strange because you never realize how verbal it is. Besides that, I never felt lost in translation maybe because dating local girls in a foreign country was always my biggest incentive to learn a new language. Currently, I know 6 languages and I can make myself understood in 2 other languages. I would be down to 3 languages if I didn't have this incentive. Only 7% of human communication is verbal. It's hard for me to believe that the other 93% cannot help us express ourselves. I've heard once that the best way to silence an italian, is to just tie up his hands.
