New anti-abortion billboard targets Latinos
By Jessica GentileJune 8th, 2011, 11:00 pmComments (19)Because targeting the African American community wasn't enough, pro-lifers have begun targeting Latinos. And they're using the same exact controversial approach. Except this time it's bilingual. New billboards sponsored by the Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles, that feature the slogan "The Most Dangerous Place for Latinos is in the Womb" in both English and Spanish, are about to pop up in Los Angeles. If you're going to spout inflammatory anti-choice rhetoric you might as well be original.
According to the Latino Partnership, in an article in The Daily Caller, "It's clear that Latinos are being targeted by organizations that promote abortion like Planned Parenthood. Many of their clinics are in Latino neighborhoods and communities." Um, wrong! According to the Guttmacher Institute, "sixty-three percent of abortion providers are located in predominantly non-Hispanic white neighborhoods, and twelve percent are located in predominantly Hispanic neighborhoods." Take bets in the comments on how long these billboards will last.

will these fucking asswipe people ever learn from their other glaringly obvious mistakes?
Who, latinos or pro-choicers?
Pro-lifers, asshat.
I'm offended by the use of the term "Latinos"- which, although supposed to refer to both females (Latinas) and males (Latinos) - just makes me think that this is a doubly misogynistic billboard, like only male fetuses matter. Doubly yuck.
I just assumed he was talking about pro-choicers that need abortion to be legal because they never seem to learn from their mistakes. Instead of Latinos, would you prefer Hispanic or something else? You didn't specify a term that would be less offensive and I would be happy to comply.
Um, I hope bdem meant pro-lifers. But it's safe to assume that he meant Hispanics.
Completely misleading to a young population of Hispanic women who feel they don't have a choice - when clearly they do, and are being made to feel guilty MORE than usual, considering Hispanics are inculcated the guilt-trip of being Catholic (at least the majority).
Fucking pro-lifers are always stereotyping the guilt-ridden Catholic culture of poor Hispanics!
Well, pro-lifers and Jon84.
I don't think this is ridiculous at all. Common rhetoric often blames the underclass, and more tacitly "brown people," for having too many children and contributing to overpopulation and draining common resources from the rest of us (the "white people").
Margaret Sanger, the founder of planned parenthood, was openly a eugenicist, someone who believed that negative traits should be weeded out of the population. In addition to promoting the use of birth control and abortions, particularly among women of color, she was also a proponent of forced sterilization for prisoners and the mentally disabled.
I think it's unwise to forget this context and ignore the fact the underlying philosophy of many arguments for reproductive rights has this underlying ethnocentrism which favors the perspective of the white woman, who doesn't have to struggle against racism, along with patriarchy, as women of color do.
So do more Latino fetuses get aborted that non-Latino fetuses. I don't know. Is there a prevailing prejudice against Latino women with multiple children? Absolutely. Is this something that we should be concerned about? I think so.
OK, so Margaret Sanger was a eugenicist prick. What's your point?
The Volkswagon was invented by the NAZIs, but that doesn't make them bad cars because their inventors were eugenicists.
Margaret Sanger was NOT an eugenicist - she sometimes used whatever rhetoric was available at the time to help women (Black women, btw, ran to her, for help. Same with white women, of all classes). Did she help women more than any dude at the time? YES, yes she did. Thank you, Margaret Sanger.
Also, a white privileged kid in the US consumes more and pollutes more than maybe 1000 brown kids. This is why, if you're a privileged white in Amerika, think a thousand times before you reproduce your privileged over-consumerist ilk, please. PLEASE.
Right away, their press release starts with a lie. Planned Parenthood does not "promote" abortions. And I'll take a wild guess here that the "Latino Partnership for Conservative Principals" wasn't started or funded by any Latinos...(googling)...yup, Grover Norquist and the homophobic "American Principles Project" are behind this "Latino" ad campaign.
If you can't afford the kids you have, then you shouldn't have more. I think that if a woman is unwed and has multiple kids with multiple fathers and needs gov't assistance, then we should sterilize her and take the burden off of the taxpayer who has to pay for their irresponsibility. I also think that, in lower income neighborhoods, abortions should be encouraged. Let's abort tomorrow's welfare mother and tomorrow's gangbanger today.
You, sir, are a moron. (I do hope you're following your own advice and signing up for a vasectomy, pronto.)
I'm neither a moron nor incorrect. If I do have kids, I can guarantee it will be because I can afford to take care of them and that they won't be scattered all over with different mothers. It's about responsibility, sugar. ;-)
@huh I would say whether you're incorrect or not is pretty subjective, since what you're stating is your opinion and certainly not proven fact.
Agreed, yikes. Well played.
Funny, because I thought that the most dangerous place for a Latino (or Latina) was on the US-Mexico border.
Latinas of adult child-bearing age are roughly 15% of all women. They have more than 20% of all the abortions in the United States. It is disproportionate, but not shockingly so. Though they are heavily Catholic, they are also more heavily poor, and uninsured than other Americans. Because of the age distribution of the Latino population, they will likely get more abortions than other Americans for years to come. And... what? They (we) will still be the plurality of the population by the middle of this century, abortion or no abortion. Give better sex ed in schools, raise the education and living standards of Latinos over time, and some of these trends will disappear.
Hispanic culture is very different from any other. I suppose we are the most conservative in the end. I mean I hear someone say "Dios mio" at least once a day. In the "provincia" (small town) you are learn that sex is a taboo subject. And if you come out with your "domingo 7" (unplanned pregnacy), you are shamed. I do wish more Hispanics would be broadminded and get birth control, cause heaven knows I see practically everyone in my neighborhood paying with welfare nowadays. But then again people from every ethnic group have come to depend on welfare, Hispanics, Asians, African-Americans, Anglos. No one is pro-abortion either, but we are all entitled to a choice.
Well from foriegn minds , do come the "choices" over the RIGHT for LIFE!! theese so-called latinos(aka hispanic) natives were doing alot better before europeans ever arrived. In fact, there lives are similar to pre-isllamic europeans. Dumb, broke, sex slaves.
while here in amerikkka,, they had all u can eat,,no fueds, no diesease, no jails, no racism and no HOMOSEXUALITY!!
Thank you europeans,,, who needs abortion, when simply being european will keep you from producing your future generations...!!
re-gardless of the many many,, attempts of white ammerickkka to curb the "latino" population,, Many would say " toooo Late" or better yet... "Keep up" but in the end,,, the sun will shine,, and the darker,,, the safer,,,and more than likely,,, the strongest will not survive. The ones that are the most fertile willl......
Now you say something
