30 Rock, Anderson Cooper, True Blood win GLAAD Awards
By Ray RahmanMarch 20th, 2011, 4:00 pmComments (2)If you thought awards season was over, then you're just not gay enough. The GLAAD Media Awards went down in New York last night, with trophies going out to recipients ranging from Russell Simmons to Ricky Martin.
Television-wise, winners included NBC's 30 Rock, HBO's True Blood, and CNN's Anderson Cooper 360, which was lauded for its treatment of the gay-teen suicide epidemic.
Ricky Martin got especially emotional at the ceremony, telling attendees about his experience coming out:
"I've been through an intense spiritual process for the last five years, especially the last two years. I needed to share it with the world. My Twitter account went from 500,000 to 1.8 million [followers]! I'm walking today with my head up high, and to be here? To be receiving an award? I've only started."
Martin also spoke on how badly organizations like GLAAD are needed in Latin America:
"Let's share the love! Let's go to Mexico! Let's go to Columbia! Let's go to Argentina! Let's go to Chile! Let's go to Brazil! We need you, GLAAD — we need you down there. I can help, I can do it! I'll be part of it. I want to be part of it."

"Columbia" should be spelled "Colombia". Colombia is the Latin American country.
