Actress and 80's fitness icon Jane Fonda has been promoting her recently-published book, Prime Time, which, among other things, includes advice to older couples on keeping the spark alive, entailing "videos and sex shops." But Fonda volunteered some information to the Sunday Telegraph's Seven magazine that wasn't in the book.
The seventy-three-year-old Fonda admitted:
"Here's something I haven't admitted publicly yet: I discovered testosterone about three years ago, which makes a huge difference if you want to remain sexual and your libido has dropped. Use testosterone. It comes in a gel, a pill, or a patch."
Fonda had to discontinue use of the male hormone, however, because it was giving her acne. But not before, as she says, having the best sex of her life at age seventy-one.
I admire Fonda's candor and lust for life, and her searching introspection exhibited in a recent interview with Charlie Rose. In that interview, Fonda, who is currently in a relationship with music producer Richard Perry, explained how she tried to please ex-husbands Roger Vadim, Tom Hayden, and Ted Turner, at the expense of her own personal growth. Her vanity and desire to please stemmed from the demands placed upon her by her emotionally distant father, actor Henry Fonda.
She also revealed that her biggest regret in life was the famous photo-op in Vietnam, where, as she says, she unwittingly sat on a gun mount, and instantly knew she had made a terrible mistake, as the photo would be used as a propaganda tool, leading to the infamous "Hanoi Jane" appellation.
