An N.W.A. biopic is happening, and it will be called Straight Outta Compton

For those of you who can't deal with experiencing seminal gangsta rap with only one of your senses, fret no more; N.W.A. will be the focus of a biopic named after their classic album, Straight Outta Compton. F. Gary Gray has signed on as director, beating out notable names like Boyz N The Hood's John Singleton, Elgin James of Little Birds, and the genius behind the Notorious B.I.G. biopic, Notorious, George Tillman Jr. 

F. Gary Gray has worked previously with the film's producer, Ice Cube, directing Friday and the music video for Cube's "It Was a Good Day." (Imagine there being a point in your life where your moniker could be shortened to "Cube" as if it, in fact, weren't no thang. Well done, Ice Cube a.k.a. O'Shea Jackson.) 

The film is set to focus on the treasure trove of problems the young rap group faced: money, guns, and bitches, and the sudden problems compounded by being suddenly hoisted into the musical limelight. (Specifically, spending too much money, shooting too many guns, and sleeping with too many bitches.)

Straight Outta Compton has, since 1988 release, been variously described as "groundbreaking," " seminal," and "scary as fuck," and has largely been credited with promoting the gangster lifestyle and shifting mainstream rap's lyrics from stuff like:

"It was twelve o'clock one Friday night, I was rocking to the beat and feeling all right"

to

"I find a good piece o' pussy, I go up in it, so if you're at a show in the front row I'm-a call you a bitch or dirty-ass ho." 

No word yet on the release date (or casting), but lord knows I'll be there in the front row wearing my Raiders cap, black hoodie, and best formal scowl.
