In an illuminating new interview (from Interview) with Tyler the Creator, conducted by none other than Waka Flocka Flame, the Odd Future rapper unleashes his unexpected rage toward Facebook. When Flame asks Tyler where the anger in his music comes from, he responds with the following:
I get pissed at little shit. Like, Facebook deleted my profile the other day without telling me, and I was fucking angry. […] I got it back though. I had to email them and talk to, like, head dudes. It still pisses me off that they deleted it. Shit like that makes me really, really angry. That shit ain’t cool. You don’t just delete a nigga’s Facebook like that."
He also cites Ian Curtis and Sid Vicious as inspiration, admits to having punched a girl in the eye, and explains his choice to bring garden gnomes on stage with him:
"My album, Goblin, just hit, and in German history, a goblin is the evil cousin of the lawn gnome. So I thought it’d be cool to have lawn gnomes on stage ’cause they look cool but they’re the cousins of goblins and leprechauns and shit like that. I just thought it’d be cool to have happy-ass lawn gnomes while I’m on stage lookin’ all mean and shit."
I'm not sure I learned too much about Tyler (other than that he might really be as immature as his critics say he is and that he's a major Waka Flocka Flame fan), but the whole thing is hugely entertaining and definitely worth a read.
