Here's some more good news for all you Community fans out there, so pay attention, all seven of you: the world's funniest study group will return in animated form a whole week before they make their live-action return to NBC on March 15. Three shorts — parts I, II, and III of a story called "Abed's Master Key" — will debut on Hulu starting March 7. Sadly, these won't be animated in Rankin/Bass stop-motion like "Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas" or in the anime style of "Foosball and Nocturnal Vigilantism," but I'm sure the most avid watchers of the show will get over it if it means getting a sweet taste of that Greendale high a little bit sooner.
And since that trailer tells you pretty much nothing about the content of the web shorts, here's what Entertainment Weekly learned about the story:
The shorts form a three-part story called “Abed’s Master Key,” in which Dean Pelton (played by recent Oscar winner Jim Rash) hires Abed (Danny Pudi) as his assistant. As part of the job, Abed gets the Master Key for Greendale. Presumably, shenanigans ensue.
A quick word of warning: the bits were not penned by the regular writing staff of the series, so if "Abed's Master Key" feels a bit off, don't freak out about the show losing its magic. The magic will still be there when it comes back to network TV. We hope — please, Dan Harmon, prove us right.
