Parks and Recreation star Aubrey Plaza was on last night's The Tonight Show, alongside the most ill-fitting guest of all time, Steven Tyler. And the TV-viewing world was not impressed.

The Huffington Post slammed her, saying she:

"Gave nearly monosyllabic, uncomfortable answers to Jay Leno's questions, couldn't introduce her own clip, and more or less admitted that she just does what men tell her to do."

The clip they're referring to is when she discusses rushing not to miss her flight to The Tonight Show. Plaza stares blankly into the camera, with the most deadpan delivery and says:

"They threw me into the car and ripped my clothes off, gave me a bag of underwear and [deep inhalation] baby wipes... Then I came here."

Is it just me, or is this girl on a next-level kind of funny? Her large faux-doe eyes reek of "I know exactly what I'm doing"... and I love it. I might even love it enough to watch Parks and Recreation. Check out the interview below. Is she boring and dry or subtly hilarious?

I didn't want to watch the entire thing because I can't stand Leno but I think she's hilarious. What a stinkin cutie.

I thought she was pretty funny. There were some awkward moments, but that seemed to be Steven Tyler's fault.

Also, Plaza saying she moved into an identical apartment next door is not the same as "more or less (admitting) she just does what men tell her to do," Huffington Post. Shame on you.

for real! I thought she was giving hilariously dry and intentionally bizarre answers and The Huff Po really ... took some liberties interpreting what she was saying.

Yeah, Aubrey Plaza is awesome... like a lot of young comedians, she really only has one character and that character is herself at the moment... so the way she acts in Parks & Rec and Funny People is really just her. Plus, she did great... I doubt I would be able to come up with anything if I were sandwiched between those two...

No, she's just boring and dry. But she's pretty and so we fall for it.

I can't believe the Huffington Post took the wrong stance on a non-issue.

Mindy Kaling is a pretty, funny, non-white girl.

And Rashida Jones is only half white.

i love her, and parks and recreation is one of the only "sitcoms" that i care to watch. it's effing hilarious.

It's pretty clear that's her delivery. Absolutely hilarious how her affect changes when she is looking at Tyler (smiling and flirting) and when she is facing Leno or the Camera (totally deadpan and dry). Almost like throwing a switch. She is totally hilarious.

Something THIS funny went over the heads of Jay Leno's audience? I'm shocked. SHOCKED! I say! Well, not that shocked. Not really shocked at all, now that I think about it. Good thing I'm too busy laughing to be shocked.

Now ask me how shocked I am that The Huffington Post isn't any more astute than Leno's crowd?

Comedy = pregnant pauses, so she mastered that.
Plus she seems like she can play any role = opens her career options.
Also, it's hip to be lethargic (nowadays) = nonetheless she was fun to watch.

Pretty hilarious because drily deadpan and playfully off the wall. So, which idiot at the POST was it?

I guess if you like her schtick in Parks, this was fine. But she's by far the weakest character on that show.

I like her. She's funnier than the Leno show deserves

she's funny, and even though I don't like Leno, he was right there with her.. talk show comedy wise.
Tyler is just a sad old rock star, who seems as 2 dimensional as his songs.. but he does look good cleaned up. It's just TV.. make art, save your world and leave this all behind...

I don't see what was wrong with her performance at all, and I definitely wouldn't call it "bombing." Did Aubry Plaza run over Huffington Post's childhood puppy or something?

May 13 11 at 5:11 am

For that matter, did she run over Hooksexup's puppy? What's the deal? And Parks and Rec is pretty excellent.

It's called "deadpan"

She's pretty funny, even though she says little

Steven Tyler is a dinosaur.

She was great! And yeah, watching her get puddly with Tyler was extra-funny. "Parks and Recreation" is also one of the only sitcoms I can bear, and her character on it gets better all the time.

May 13 11 at 8:16 pm
whatever

no, she was totally boring in that: "i'm totally insecure so i'm going to try to act like i'm just way above this" kinda way. fucking annoying.
