NBC orders new Sarah Silverman pilot
By Rick PaulasNovember 23rd, 2011, 4:45 pmComments (17)Well, here's some welcome news in these, the wretched days following NBC's idiotic decision to take the nerd-gasmic Community off the air, out back behind the shed, and send it off to TV show heaven: Sarah Silverman's getting another crack at it.
According to Deadline, the pilot will be "loosely based on Silverman’s life ... as a woman readjusting to the single life after a decade-long live-in relationship." Which is, you know, fine and all. It'll be fun to see who gets cast as the stand-in for Jimmy Kimmel. And all of the greatest comedies come from, as the old saying goes, "writing what you know."
But the key aspect of all this news, the part that everyone's focusing on, is that, in Silverman, NBC's getting a third raunchy female comic to add to their roster, following Whitney's Whitney Cummings and Chelsea Handler, who is currently prepping the mid-season replacement Are You There, Chelsea? as we speak. With the move — especially if they pick up the show — the peacock is quickly becoming the go-to place for potty-mouthed ladies. The only problem with that line of thinking, though, as we've already seen with Whitney and are soon-to-see with the Handler show, is that NBC doesn't allow much "raunch" onscreen. Instead, they settle for ultra-toned-down versions of the comics, turning them to your basic "guys and girls have so little in common!" annoying stereotypes. It'll be interesting to see if they let Silverman do her thing, or if Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will continue being the only funny female comedians in the house.

What about Amy Poehler?
Yeah. That's my mistake. Fixing.
Fay and Poehler " the only funny female comedians in the house"? Really? Wiig? WIIG????!!!!
My thinking was that "the house" referred to NBC. What other women have starring roles in sitcoms on NBC that are actually funny?
Eh, Wiig isn't that funny, she's more into annoying catchphrase crap "I said it, I said the secret word", and beating the same lame skits into the ground over and over and over again: Garth and Kath (songwriters that make up songs as they go), the chick that one-ups everyone ("My dog died too, it was worse than your dogs"), Judy Grimes (the aunt that is offended by everything), etc, etc.. A lot of her stuff is no better than slapstick.
Fey and Poehler were good performers and wrote a lot of GREAT non-recurring sketches and commercials (The Woomba, Weekend Update, Mom Jeans, etc, etc).
Wiigs sketches are almost always a repeat of the character, but the same joke punched into the ground over and over and over again. Although sometimes she does wear a different shirt in each episode.
Whitney's just fell off my DVR list, 2 Broke Girl's is next candidate to delete, and Chelsea previews didn't look that great online. Not a fan of Sarah. Amy Poehler finally won me over this season, and yea Tin Fey. Thanks for keeping up the fight on Community's possible demise.
These chicks are proving that women aren't funny. Or maybe its the programmers who are terrible.
Whitney, Chelsea, The two chicks/waitresses. The New Girl,... holy shit. Pure unadulterated piss.
Honestly, I would not have guessed Whitney Cummings was in any way raunch or independently funny. Hope it works out for her post-series...
Whitney wasn't funny before she got the show. She just made a bunch of jokes that men made about women and pretended it was empowerment. I don't think Chelsea is all that funny either. But if they let Silverman do anything like the Sarah Silverman program, it may be worth watching.
One more reason to hate NBC.
I can tell you now - this will both suck and blow.
yeah i really dont find her to be funny at all. or cummings for that matter.
