The 2012 Olympic Mascots: Boredom + LSD

Olympic mascots are often weird and make no sense and the mascots for the 2012 London games are no exception. It's nice, the way they engender goodness and trying hard or whatever the Olympics are supposed to stand for, but everyone is more or less baffled what these pansexual future-blobs are supposed to be.

Wenlock is named after Much Wenlock, a village in Shropshire which held an event in the 19th century which inspired the modern Games. Mandeville is named after the hospital at which the Paralympic Games were founded. Though both sound like Tolkein characters, the names are quite good and are the only thing that makes the mascots distinctly British.

Okay! And in case that's still not enough information, here's an origins video to supplement.

You know how it goes. Grandpa will be working at the Shropshire foundry like he do, and then he'll come home late one night with his mystery shoeboxes full of things. What will it be this time? Metal things! Aw, grandpa, you're the best. I hope that fucking rainbow comes.

And in case that still doesn't make sense because you are a person that needs things rationally explained to them, here's a chart pointing out the function of every detail on the mascots. Of course.
