Casey Affleck's Joaquin Phoenix "rap" documentary finally gets a release date

A legendary public crackup/publicity stunt/earnest attempt at self-reinvention (?) finally gets its own documentary this year, as Magnolia Pictures will release I'm Still Here, "a striking portrayal of a tumultuous year in the life of internationally acclaimed actor Joaquin Phoenix." The year in question began in 2009, when Phoenix, best regarded at the time for his performance in Walk the Line, announced his retirement from acting to pursue a hip-hop career, then turned up on Letterman acting a little funny. For your edification, here's a clip of Phoenix rapping.

The film — which also marks the directorial debut of the talented Casey Affleck — presumably will contain many more banging tracks like this one, as well as, allegedly, a scene of somebody literally shitting on Phoenix. (We're still hoping that someone in the game of reportorial telephone mistranscribed the word "figuratively" on that one.) I'm Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix hits theaters on September 10.
