In late 2000, the husband-and-wife creative team of Carlos Bayala and Gabriela Scardaccione launched a yuletide promotional campaign for the ad agency Mother. Over the next two years, the Argentinian duo produced a dozen commercials campaigning to replace old St. Nick with an updated Christmas spokesfigure — someone a bit younger, a bit swarthier, y un poquito más rico suave. But when it looked like Santa Claus was here to stay, the films disappeared without a trace. As testament to the sheer effectiveness of the campaign, the entire collection of Chris Christmas Rodriguez shorts have been mirrored and restored by its fans online. — Jason Wishnow n°
