You know, when Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife Cécilia divorced five months after his winning the French presidency, we remember her getting most of the press, largely because she had been pretty MIA during the campaign and was already deeply and publicly involved with another man in New York. Well, it looks like Sarko has bounced back from le divorce pretty darned well, merci boucoup. Like as in he's marrying Carla Bruni, the 39-year-old supermodel-turned-chanteuse pictured above.
The weekly Le Journal Du Dimanche, citing unidentified sources, said Sarkozy gave Carla Bruni a heart-shaped diamond engagement ring in December and the pair will wed Feb. 8 or 9.
The presidential palace declined comment on the report.
Sarkozy, who divorced his wife Cecilia in October, has flaunted his relationship with Bruni on recent holidays in Egypt and Jordan, drawing criticism that he is being too loose with the presidential image.
Political analyst Dominique Moisi said a Sarkozy proposal to Bruni could be an effort to head off any future controversies and its speed would fit with his personality as a busy man in a hurry.
"Apparently, he's going to be marry her, so the problem will be behind him," Moisi said.
One thing they don't mention: that according to Bruni's Wikipedia page, she a) looks great in clothing too and b) is only a casual adherent to monogamy.
Oh, and another thing they don't mention: godDAMN you, France!
