Breaking: Dennis Kucinich Drops Out of Presidential Race

Posted by Brian Fairbanks

It's not out on the wire yet, but the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported in the last few minutes that Dennis Kucinich said he will withdraw from the Presidential race tomorrow. More on the story here.

Dennis Kucinich was in the Presidential race?  I had no idea!

There's just not enough media coverage of this election.

The man is a joke.  We in the 10th congressional district in Ohio were happy he was out spotting UFO's with Shirly McClain rather be actually trying to do his job.

Now we actually have to listen to him try to save his congressional seat in what is only going to be another losing battle.

Maybe he should learned his lesson about politics when he was the mayor of Cleveland and watched it go bankrupt back in the day.

jwebster, if you didn't know who was running then you gotta take some responsibility for that, I mean there are no shortage of websites with a list of the candidates. And he was  present in a number of the early debates.

dsz, you're talking out of your ass. Cleveland went bankrupt in a day because the bankers were punishing him for not selling Muni Light. His decision not to sell saved Cleveland almost $200 million over a decade, and he was honored by the city council for his leadership.

Since he's been reelected 5 times for his congressional seat, it's hardly accurate to describe his first possible loss and "another losing battle."

He also had the foresight to vote against Iraq war and the Patriot Act.

Ok, so now I sound like some rapid Kucinich supporter, which I'm not, I think there's a lot of valid criticisms of his policies and he has some clear shortcomings as a presidential candidate. Your post just wasn't accurate.

I think jwebster's post may have been sprinkled with some sarcasm, camipc0.

The Cuyahoga River caught on fire when he was mayor.  River. On. Fire.  The East River never caught on fire, even during the Beame Administration.

profrobert, the Cuyahoga was catching on fire long before Kucinich's time.

That's very true.

That Randy Newman song for 1970, "Burn On," way before Kucinich's Mayoral term, talks about the Cuyahoga.

Burn on, big river, burn on.

That's an interesting excuse:  "Hey, man, the river was already on fire when I got here."  I guess he just didn't run on an "I'll put out the river" platform, huh?

As someone who formerly lived in Kucinich's district, it very often seemed that he was far too busy running for president to bother spending much time doing what was needed for the 10th district.  However, I think he has some decent ideas and didn't do as badly by Cleveland when he was mayor as many people claim he did.
