A competitive New York primary would be so cool. Not because it's where we (the Scanner bloggers) live. Rather, an Obama win (or a narrow loss) would be much more interesting.
The stakes in New York State were raised this morning by The New York Post's somewhat surprise endorsement of Barack Obama. Hillary Clinton, the state's junior Senator, had visibly courted the paper's owner, Rupert Murdoch, attending events in his honor and allowing him to hold a widely-publicized fundraiser for her. But, in the end, the Post could not support a woman they've been attacking daily for seventeen years.
Obama has the Post and the New York Observer, with support from just about none of its elected officials. Hillary Clinton has the Times and support of just about all the pols...and the other kind of polls behind her. Is there any chance Obama can take this State, or even New York City? And will it matter?
