You've Lost That Loving Feeling

Posted by Brian Fairbanks

This is the moment that Hillary Clinton believes will turn the tide of the primaries?

This morning, her campaign chair, Terry McAuliffe, sent out an e-mail message with a link to this video, calling it "the moment of the debate."

Seriously, people, this is why she cannot win this election or any other: if you turn the sound off, you can see right through anything she says. Does anyone truly think, both candidates being relatively similar on the issues, that Hillary Clinton is the better candidate against Senator John McCain?

I don't know whether she'll be the better candidate, but I also don't really understand the perpetual impulse to denigrate her and be so absurdly hard on her.  You post this clip as some kind of evidence that she sucks, when she's up there saying something really kind.  Do you think we can love Obama without hating on Clinton like it's some kind of sport?  There's no substance here worthy of this post's negative appraisal, so it comes off as going out your way to make a flimsy jab based on a personal aversion.

Yesterday's debate actually made me warm up to Clinton.  If you're going to be critical about her performance yesterday, then play the clip where she makes a pathetic dig at Obama over the plagiarism accusation. That was lame, it was poorly received, and I think it worked against her.

That said, I'm still partial to Obama.  I think he is better suited to the job of President, and agree completely with the argument he put forward to that effect during the debate.  I also think that his diplomatic, easy-going, and "taking the high road" approach would be better suited to taking on McCain.  He's going to end up making McCain look like a heartless dicktard and raving lunatic, just you wait.

This posting demonstrates a real lack of rationality IMO.  You declare, in so many words, that her words are empty and insincere when you say that with the sound off you "can see right through her".  If your evaluation of a person's value doesn't take into account content (ie WHAT they're saying) and only presentation (how they APPEAR as they speak) then you might as well vote for Liberace.  Barack (whom I consider a reasonable candidate btw) has very talented speech writers and campaign advisors, but at the end of the day I believe that Hillary is far more prepared to take the reins.  I'm not so convinced that Barack's platform can be executed as well as his campaign has been.  Personally I find HIM less genuine, but I'm not about to write some over-the-top condemnation of his character.
