Did Anyone Else Get an A*shole With Their Most Recent American Apparel Purchase?

Posted by Emily Farris

We could do an entire series of "I Hate Myself for Loving You: American Apparel Clothes," but we won't. We'll just cop to shopping there. However, we had to stop and consider why after a recent t-shirt purchase. When we got home, we noticed that the not-so-friendly American Apparel employes had stuffed a complimentary AA 2008 calendar in our bag—which wouldn't have been so bad had June 19 not featured an asshole.

If you're dying to have an asshole hanging on your own wall (along side some Hasidic Jews, see August 15 above), you can purchase the American Apparel 2008 poster calendar for $3.00 here.

I am probably the last person in the universe to actually visit the American Apparel website, and I don't really know anything about the company, but I must say the photos were all deeply disturbing to me.  I felt like I was looking at a collection of victims' portraits taken by a serial murderer/rapist before he did them in.  I can't say it really made me want to purchase anything.  Am I a freak, or is it on purpose?

Worse: June 19 was recently featured on the BACK COVER of some artsy magazine (which title escapes me at the moment). An assault on the senses.

Am I the only one who's not bothered by AA ads? How are they any different from the sexualized 14 year-olds who sell me cosmetics every where I look? I kinda appreciate the in-your-face attitude of honestly using sex to sell. Plus they give their factory workers a living wage. I rather buy an expensive t-shirt from them then H&M.
