"South Park"/"Heavy Metal" Mashup Maybe Needed More Boobs

Posted by Bryan Christian

Call us party poopers but we can't help but feel a little disappointed in last night's South Park, which went by the name of "Major Boobage" and promised to be a Heavy Metal-inspired hornball freakout -- but wound up spending too much time taking the same Libertarian-type potshots that the show always does: "Hey, the media overreacts!" "Hey, the nanny state is a bad idea!" "Hey, TV confessions are exercises in narcissism!"

Hey, get to the major boobage, guys!

Don't get us wrong, there was major boobage, and the episode is totally worth watching. It's just, you know, we wanted MORE! We were excited at the prospect of the Stan and the kids really confronting weird adult sex stuff again. Too much to ask? Maybe. Anyways, if you're at work and can't get away with watching 22 minutes of a cartoon (but weirdly, "literate smut" is OK?), meet back here after the jump for some choice screengrabs.

Oooh, never has a Scanner post ever incited me to comment. But here I am, namely, in outrage!  Those "same Libertarian-type potshots" as you call them are the only sane social commentary we've got nowadays. So yeah, you are a party pooper.

Hey, I never said they were wrong! Don't get outraged! We probably agree on each of those things. I'm just saying, you know, "Oh, that again." Like, everything they did in that ep that wasn't Heavy Metal, they'd done before: in the JonBenet episode, in the R. Kelly episode, in the many "Cartman is an Anti-Semite" episodes... and I was hoping for a little more was all. Don't hate me!

Okay okay, so after some long, hard deliberation, I think I may have an inkling of a clue as to where you're coming from. Sort of. The whole message-of-the-week stuff does get old, but it's so damn spot on always, I can't help but be grateful. However after the initial new episode Wednesday night daze of anticipation and excitement wore off I can admit that the episode wasn't super original or anything. And so, it seems we agree pretty much completely, and that I may have flown off the handle in that last comment. The episode was good, the boobs were good, but yes, business as usual in the quiet little mountain town. This may have been enough for me, but I can see how it could leave one wanting more.
