Will all these starry-eyed young voters still think the world of Barack Obama now that he's turned down public financing for his campaign?
In a video message sent to supporters this morning Senator Barack Obama said his campaign had made the decision not to participate in public financing during the general election.
“It’s not an easy decision especially because I support a robust system of public financing of presidential elections,” Mr. Obama said in the video. “But the public financing of presidential elections as it exists today is broken.” [NYT]
Sure, this is the right move, as the battle against John McCain will require every small donation Obama can raise online. But this is the kind of move that had Daily Kossacs and other hard-left Dems railing against him until his nomination was assured. Will it bring about disillusionment with Obama... or does anyone care about principles anymore? In any case, sooner or later, voters overjoyed by the Senator from Illinois are no doubt going to end up disappointed one day, when they finally come to terms with the fact that Obama is, as he might even admit, just another politician who made it big in a hurry...
