Wow, the Daily Mail sure does know how to write a headline. But apparently they're telling the truth...
In what seems like a plotline straight out of a "survivor porn" story, 30 ravenous bears have trapped a team of geologists at an isolated research facility in Kamchatka, Russia. The bears ate 2 of their colleagues last week. (A spokesperson from the Emergency Situations Ministry duly explains: "The bears are hungry.")
While the area is prone to hungry bears -- rampant fish-poaching leaves the bears' food source a little lacking -- the Daily Mail reports that it's "rare for a group of bears to encircle an encampment for a prolonged period of time." No shit.
And in case 30 hungry bears isn't scary enough, apparently this Kamchatka brown bear is one of the largest bear species in the world. They weigh around 110 stone, which translates to a lot, and have a body length of about 10 feet.
The good news is that while bad weather is preventing a rescue helicopter from flying in, an all-terrain vehicle is on its way. Seriously.

(Ooh, and Reuters is reporting it, too.)
