Wasn't Scanner Emily just talking about the sweet sounds of the 1990s? Well here it comes. It is time (as it was for the 80s) for the 90s to make their triumphant return.
We've seen glimpses of grunge on fashion runways; books and films probing the iconography of Kurt Cobain; and of course the relentless Bill Clinton over the years, but here comes the actual soundtrack to those earnest days of goatees and renting VHS copies of Hal Hartley films while pining over, well, everything.
The alternative albums of the 1990s are approaching anniversaries, ten, fifteen, even twenty years, which means it's time for record companies to scrape together any B-side or "previously unreleased" track they could find, remaster the original recording and make you want the new packaging so you don't buy it on itunes. We've already purchased our Pavement reissue this year, though we might pass on the Pearl Jam.
But four different reissues? My Lord. The album, Ten, that is responsible for the aftermath of Eddie Vedder imitators we've endured for more than a decade now, is still "alive" and "Jeremy's spoken" "once" again (I couldn't help it). There's a Legacy Edition, Deluxe Edition, Vinyl Collection Edition AND the Super Deluxe Edition. Jesus Christ. See the breakdown here.
Sorry, holiday shoppers, but the onslaught of Pearl Jam Ten editions will be released on March 24. Pearl Jam doesn't sell out like that, remember?
